As Duane\'s nutritionist, it is my honor to offer you a rare glimpse into the hurculean weight cutting process that BANG will be using, leading into his December 4th showdown with UFC veteran, Ryan Roberts, in the Ring of Fire, right here in Denver, Colorado.
Over the next few days, I will post updates of Duane\'s weight, workouts, meals and happenings.
Each day, I try to wake up before BANG and prepare his breakfast, which varies.
Today, I woke up a half hour earlier than normal, made a measured bowl of whole oats, fresh berries, almond butter and a touch of cinnamon, covered it as I do every day and left it on his kitchen counter, ate my own portion and slid back into my bed to grab another hour of sleep before we were off to the Grudge Training Center in Wheat Ridge, CO for another session of hard sparring with the likes of Nate Marquardt, Tyler Toner, Luke Caudillo, Alvin Robinson, Cody Donovan, Ian Berg and many more of Colorado\'s best, all under the watchful eye of Coach \'T\'.
Practice starts at 10am.
As usual, Duane gives his partners all they can handle and the intensity in the gym is amazing!
Upon leaving, I ask BANG how his rounds went.
He says, \"I actually felt pretty good. I really tried to push the pace and make myself tired. I could have done alittle better in a few spots but I\\\'m happy overall.\"
From what I saw, BANG looked amazing! His stand-up is world-class, his takedowns were explosive, his submissions are nasty and his conditioning is on a whole other level.
Then he says, \"I didn\'t want to say anything before we trained, but I woke up at 4:30am and went on a three mile run. I didn\'t want it to seem like I was trying to take it easy today, so I did\'t say anything.\"
That statement explains Duane perfectly.
He puts in so much time and works so hard and ALWAYS looks for ways to push himself farther and make himself better...instead of falling back on excuses and looking for ways to take it easy.
We jumped into Duane\'s black Scion X8 and made our way to Amal Easton\'s BJJ Academy in downtown Denver, where \"Professor Ludwig\" runs a Muay Thai class from 12pm-1:30pm
