Training

February 3, 2009
So I have 3 training logs to put up. After the Pattaya deal falling thru, Tien here at the Bangplee camp stepped up and took really great care of my wife and I for our anniversary. He gave us a suite that is really nice so thanks a ton Tien. Hot Tub jacuzzi in the room with a buge bed and nice wood floors with fully tiled bathroom with state of the art fixtures, super nice. Yesterdays morning training started like usual with me waking to the sounds of pads smacking and the roosters crowing. I went straight to the pads and saved the running for after training. 1rd shadow boxing with Dum watching and giving advice, then rds 2-7 were blocking kicks and countering with some different things this time, using counters that work a bit better for me and my style. Dum started asking me what I liked when he throws this or that and he took some mental notes and we went to work, smacking pads and moving around, changing it up a bit. Instead of just countering kick with kick always, we started slipping shot and steping around and using angles, he would say \"i like, i like\" and that he would fight like this. Were really starting to know each other and I getting ready to leave here soon. Its Wed here and were taking off Fri morning so I have 3 more trainings with Dum. If anyone plans on coming out to Fairtex, which I suggest for the experience alone, there are a lot of other cool things to come for. The Muay Thai training of course, but talk to your trainer, and let him kow you like certain things and these guys have seen it all so they can adjust, there here for us. Mr.Wongs little zoo in the back is so cool, 3 little monkeys, 3 leopards, 2 or 3 tucan birds in the back, 1 huge dog, big old snake and roosters all over with coi fish that look like dinosaurs. the whole camp has a jungle atmosphere. 5 rings. PLace to roll and a full on weight room with 5 treadmills and 3 elipticles. After training, the three of us, Oscar, my wife and myself, hit the Crocodile farm. They have of course, you guessed it, crocodiles all over. There is the show where the guys put there hands and heads in the crocs mouth. You see it on TV and the internet but its nothing like when your actually there in person. Its scarry!, You want to tell the guy \"WTF are you doing man?\" It was so fun. There were 2 trainers. They make a fun little skit out of it. It was funny as heck. We would laugh and then get scared then laugh. They really have the crocs trained. 1 guy would have his hand in the mouth and the other guy would come from behind the croc and slap its but and the croc would chomp down and make a loud smacking sound right after the 1st guy would pull his hand out of the way at the last minute. Then he would start yelling at the other guy in Thai of course but the jesters were the same as ours so he must of been saying WTF? it was funny. After the show, we had the option to take pics with the cros but we passed on that. We did take pics with the baby white tigers that we soo freaking cool. We got to feed the babies and hold them, that was a cool experience. To hear these little guys purr and growl was crazy, there so tiny but so loud. You could not believe it. One of the babies started to attack my wifes foot, just playing of course, but it was cool. My boxing coach back home has a Serval cat which is about 40lbs and it back is about 2.5 feet high when it walks. These little white tigers were about the size of my jack russels back home but twice the weight, about 30lbs. there so dense. My buddy Oscar took pics, when I get back ill have the pics up on the site. So after the baby tigers, we hit the gun range thats on the croc farm, it was I think 100baht to shoot 10 bullets. 100 baht is roughly $3. The croc farm just opened so the gun slinger didnt have change for the 500baht bill i gave him so i bought 2 sets of bullets. Im not much of a gun guy but its fun to shoot at the targets. i think I did pretty good, i have a pic of my target, ill show on the site when i get back. I shot about 14 bullets and gave the rest for oscar. Oh ya, they have auto matics there but were out of bullets, I was ready to do it Rambo style but it didn\'t work. After the guns we walked around and seen the rest of the zoo part which was pretty cool. We got to feed elephants and Hippos. Theres this monkey cage off to the side so we start walking and look at this railing and we all say \"is that little monkey out?\" We get closer and closer and YES, this little furLESS monkey was out running around. It was crazy. This little thing comes running up and i got freaked out. Im not too sure if it has some kind of rabies or what. We all started running like little girls. Then the monkey stops so we stop and look at it and see how close we can get before it starts after us again, it was about 3 feet. The little guy wanted bananas. They have these little bananas were 20baht for a bunch so it was cheap to toss them around like we were rich. Feeding everything we seen. Hippos, elephants, monkeys and these othe chimpanzes. Oh ya, another ADD moment, i bought these sliced up mangos to eat for ourselves but once we seen how they were sliceing them, which was pretty dirty looking, we just couldnt come to eat them. So we gave them to the animals. the chimps liked the mangos more then the bananas. Back to the little crazy monkey that runs around, we couldnt figure how it was getting out so my wife went to tell someone that the monkey was out but they didnt seem to care too much so we said forget it. One other couple came up to the monkey and the girl wants a pic by the little guy and gets pretty close and the monkey takes after her, she starts running and screaming a bit and the guy says \"i told you\" it was funny too, we all started laughing. After buying more souveniers then we needed, we took off back to the camp for the after noon training. I hit the treadmill before training for another 30 minutes. Ive been doing about 1 hr total a day of running. Then it was off to the pads with Dum. Were really begining to flow, if you come out here, you have to stay for longer then a week. It takes me about a week to get used to the Thai style of training. After the week, it gets fun. Combos start flowing and u get to have fun. We did some countering stuff, most of the countering was after the initial strike was thrown by Dum. i counter 3 way back home, before, during and after the strike, here, they mostly counter after the stike. It was a lot of push kick counters and using my front leg to get the guy off balance then following up with shots. We get about 7rds in then Dum is done. I had some more energy so I hit the bags and Oscar took some pics, then we switched rolls and i became the photographer. i finished with 9min of jumping on the big tire which feels like jumping on the trampoline, when you get off, yuor legs feel heavy. After the training, my wife and i moved all our stuff up the the 3rd story suite and have a good nights sleep. This mornings training was a 30 min run at a slower 9min mile pace then 1 rd shadow and 7 rds of mitts, again using my own counters and movement. Cutting angles and slipping shots. A lot of elbows today though, it was good. Jump knees and spinning kicks too, it was cool but again, some things I would not use when I get home. now its time to go eat and relax a bit for the afternoon training.
